The Course
71 Years in the Valley
Frank and Gordon "Pete" McLean carved the original 9-hole course from the Chenango River valley hillside in 1955. What began as a modest par-35 layout grew into something much more — golf course architect Ernie Smith transformed the layout in the 1990s into the 18-hole, par-71 championship course that stands today. PGA-rated and open to the public, the course rewards precision over power. The greens are where the Genny earns its reputation — undulating, fast, and unforgiving if you misread the break. Shorter tees welcome newer golfers, but nobody walks away thinking this course was easy.
The setting does the rest. Mountain views frame every hole. The pond catches light in the afternoon. Fall foliage turns the valley into a postcard. This is public golf that feels private — no pretension, no dress code, just 18 holes through some of the most beautiful terrain in upstate New York.
